Surah Al-Hijr 15:59

The Reason why the Angels came

Allah tells us that after Ibrahim had calmed down from the excitement of this good news, he started to ask them why they had come to him. They said,

(We have been sent to a guilty people.) meaning the people of Lut. They told him that they were going to save the family of Lut from among those people, except for his wife, because she was one of those who were doomed. Thus it was said,

(Except for his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind.) i.e., she was one of those who would be left behind and will be destroyed.

Para malaikat yang menjadi tamu Nabi Ibrahim menerangkan kepadanya bahwa mereka ditugaskan untuk membinasakan kaum Lut yang tidak mengindahkan seruan nabi yang diutus kepada mereka. Termasuk orang-orang yang dibinasakan itu adalah istri Lut sendiri. Sedangkan orang-orang yang mengikuti Lut akan diselamatkan dari azab itu.

Dari ayat ini dapat dipahami bahwa seseorang tidak dapat membebaskan orang lain dari azab Allah walaupun orang lain itu adalah istri, anak-anak atau orang tuanya, karena manusia bertanggung jawab kepada Allah atas segenap perbuatan yang telah dilakukannya. Allah tidak akan membebani seseorang dengan dosa orang lain sedikit pun. Firman Allah:

¦ Dan seseorang tidak akan memikul beban dosa orang lain¦ (al-An'am/6: 164)
