Surah An-Nahl 16:123

He selected him, as Allah says :

(And before, We indeed gave Ibrahim his integrity, and We were indeed most knowledgeable about him)(21:51). Then Allah says:

(and guided him to a straight path.) which means to worship Allah alone, without partners or associate, in the manner that He prescribed and which pleases Him.

(And We gave him good in this world,) meaning, `We granted him all that a believer may require for a good and complete life in this world.'

(and in the Hereafter he shall be of the righteous.) Concerning the Ayah:

(And We gave him good in this world,) Mujahid said: "This means a truthful tongue."

(Then, We have sent the revelation to you: "Follow the religion of Ibrahim (he was a) Hanif. ..) meaning, `because of his perfection, greatness, and the soundness of his Tawhid and his way, We revealed to you, O Seal of the Messengers and Leader of the Prophets ,'

(Follow the religion of Ibrahim (he was a) Hanif and he was not of the idolators.) This is like the Ayah in Surat Al-An`am:

(Say: "Truly, my Lord has guided me to a straight path, a right religion, the religion of Ibrahim, (he was a) Hanif and he was not of the idolators.") (6:161). Then Allah rebukes the Jews,

Dalam ayat ini ditegaskan hubungan yang erat antara agama Nabi Ibrahim dan agama yang dibawa Nabi Muhammad saw. Firman Allah swt:

Katakanlah (Muhammad), "Sesungguhnya Tuhanku telah memberiku petunjuk ke jalan yang lurus, agama yang benar, agama Ibrahim yang lurus. Dia (Ibrahim) tidak termasuk orang-orang musyrik." (al-An'am/6: 161)

Di antara syariat Nabi Ibrahim yang masih berlaku pada masa Nabi Muhammad saw ialah pelaksanaan khitan. Beberapa ulama menetapkan hukum wajib khitan karena syariat khitan ini tidak dihapus oleh syariat Nabi Muhammad saw.

Firman Allah swt:

Dan berjihadlah kamu di jalan Allah dengan jihad yang sebenar-benarnya. Dia telah memilih kamu, dan Dia tidak menjadikan kesukaran untukmu dalam agama. (Ikutilah) agama nenek moyangmu Ibrahim. Dia (Allah) telah menamakan kamu orang-orang muslim sejak dahulu, dan (begitu pula) dalam (Al-Qur'an) ini, agar Rasul (Muhammad) itu menjadi saksi atas dirimu dan agar kamu semua menjadi saksi atas segenap manusia. Maka laksanakanlah salat; tunaikanlah zakat, dan berpegangteguhlah kepada Allah. Dialah Pelindungmu; Dia sebaik-baik pelindung dan sebaik-baik penolong. (al-hajj/22: 78)

Berulang kali pula dalam Al-Qur'an, Allah swt menegaskan bahwa Ibrahim itu bukanlah orang musyrik sebagaimana halnya orang musyrikin Quraisy yang mengakui diri mereka pengikut dan keturunan Nabi Ibrahim.
