وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

Walaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon

And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
